The Numbers Tell the Story
We surveyed MSA leaders across the DMV to better understand their challenges, needs, and hopes for the future.
The results were clear:
Young Muslim leaders are stepping up—but too often without mentorship, structure, or support.
56%
of student leaders rated mentorship access 5/10 or lower
“Mentors are often inaccessible and busy.”
72%
said their MSA collaborates with a local mosque rarely or never
“I feel like a stranger every time I pop up in the masjid.”
68%
said they have not received leadership training specific to their role
“I don’t know where to start.”
44%
said they have felt unprepared in their leadership position
“I’m pretty nervous and I feel like I’m gonna fail us next year.”
80%+
expressed interest in stronger regional networks, mentorship, and inter-MSA support
“We need a blueprint for a successful MSA.”
Behind every statistic is a student trying to lead alone.
